  1. Just come back from an amazing weekend experience just 2 miles from home!

All details above are correct BUT you must note that no car means from the moment of arrival and you must walk with your camping gear for about 5 – 7 minutes over fairly tricky terrain, esp. when wet and muddy. However, Patrick kindly offers to take your things on the tractor trailer but you must prearrange time. This was a great help.

We made some great friends, all the children from each family played as if they had known each other forever and all appeared to revel in the chance for some freedom and respite from modern entertainment. Building wigwams, sharing the swing, hiking up to the top of the hill, toasting marshmallows together on the fire – these are experiences and memories that will build good and interesting adults of tomorrow.

For the nervous, the compost toilet is an incredibly civilised unit, not at all smelly and there are proper seats! Also anti bac gel.

There is no shower, nor mains water in the main campsite but Wendy and Patrick leave water containers in the middle and most children were thrilled not to have a wash!!

Campfires were spectacular with an abundant variety of logs and firewood.

We will return with less stuff to carry but as much an appetite for adventure and “back to natureness”.

Wendy and Patrick, thank you so much for creating this opportunity for children to avoid baths and for grown ups to not mind!

    Best regards
Denise, John, Derek and Harriet Allison

  2. We are now midweek and it already feels like an age since we were camping last weekend. Wendy and Patrick, thank you so much for fitting us all in. We all had an amazing time and the archery was great (a big thank you to Rozie for that). You have such a special spot and we love your philosophy. It’s great to see someone educating the adults of the future in such a practical and holistic way.

We made some Thai lanterns out of tissue paper and set them off into the night sky, laugh and drank into the early hours and generally had a great time. The open fire was a welcome treat too.

We will see you on the medieval carnival / fayre on the 12th and 13th ( i think that is right)

    Again, many, many thanks

    Rick and Veronica.

  3. What a lovely time we have just had. Taking the kids for a weekend of woodland camping was like stepping back into a better time.

This is real camping, a beautiful sheltered wooded glade, plenty of space, fabulous host (wendy) and as much nature as you fancy.

Sunny days, no bath times (hoorah from the kids), late nights and toasting marshmallows over open fires.

More than many holidays this was a delightful escape from the hussle and bussle of city life.

Many thanks. We will be back.

  4. We recommend Ashwood Farm Camping to anyone who wants to enjoy a return to genuine old style camping.Great location in the woods, open fires, helpful yet unintrusive hosts and fellow campers who appreciate the uniqueness of the beautiful setting.Especially recommended to those who wish to experience something other than the sanitised modern campsite.Thank you Wendy and Patrick.

  5. Thank you Wendy and Patrick. We had the best time!
We travelled all the way from Manchester for the privilege of staying at this beautiful site. We camped in a clearing that we had to ourselves, underneath a gorgeous beech tree, and had such fun turning into our own Swiss Family Robinson lifestyle!
The compost loos were not only clean and comfy but also a fantastic idea.
Nothing beats the atmosphere of sitting round a roaring fire at night in the stillness of the woods.

We had such fun roaming around in the dark of the night, climbing trees and getting good and grimy! There is a lovely shower available for use, however we decided to give washing a miss!

Wendy and Patrick were friendly and lovely. Thank you so much, we will definitely be back! x x x

  6. We decided to go camping on our own for our 5th wedding anniversary and I’m not sure we could have made a better choice! The setting was wonderful – lots of space, peace and quiet (apart from the wood pigeons in the morning!).

Patrick and wendy have made what looks like an amazing life for themselves, and they really couldn’t have been more welcoming and accomodating.

We will definitely be coming back next spring, and this place is so special we think we might just try to keep it to ourselves 😉
